Lottidi: Equality is Not Enough to Legislate – It Must Be Implemented

Commissioner for Administration and Protection of Human Rights, Maria Stylianou-Lottidi, on the occasion of the International Day for the Elimination of Racial Discrimination, emphasizes that Cyprus has a strong legal framework for the protection of equality, but the existence of legislation is not enough. The implementation of the legislation is equally important. Ms. Lottidi states that her office has handled cases of discrimination and hate speech, and that preventing discrimination requires education, awareness, and accountability. She points out that the normalization of hate speech cannot be tolerated and that tolerance of discrimination constitutes complicity. The Commissioner pledges to continue to defend equality and human dignity with independence and determination.
