Limassol Police Raid Businesses, Arrest Two for Illegal Employment

The Limassol Police have intensified checks on barbershops and mini-markets managed by foreigners as part of a targeted campaign. During the inspections, carried out by joint teams from the Police, the Department of Labour Inspection, the Social Insurance Services, and the Tax Department, irregularities were found in eight establishments. Specifically, two barbershops were operating without a license, while three mini-markets were operating without a license and without a license to sell tobacco products. Products were also confiscated and fines were imposed. During the inspections, two individuals were arrested for illegal employment and their employer was reported. In addition, one person was arrested for identity verification and an out-of-court settlement of €4,000 was issued for undeclared work. The inspections covered a total of 20 businesses on Agias Phylaxeos, Gladstone, Franklin Roosevelt, Misiaouli, Kavazoglou, Omonia, Christodoulos Hatzipavlou, Georgiou A', Demokratia and Apostolou Varnava streets. The Police announced that they will continue to intensify checks in the area, aiming to uphold legality and protect workers. This campaign is part of efforts to combat undeclared work and the illegal management of businesses by foreigners. It is noted that the legislation applied during the inspections concerns the Shop Assistants Law, which regulates the terms of employment and employment in specific sectors. The Police are working closely with the relevant government departments to effectively enforce the law and protect the interests of workers and the state.
