Laporta Criticizes Mbappe: "Respect is Required in Victory and Defeat"

Barcelona president Joan Laporta expressed his dissatisfaction with Kylian Mbappe's behavior after Barcelona's Super Cup victory. Mbappe reportedly urged his Real Madrid teammates not to participate in the award ceremony and not to form a 'pasillo' (guard of honor) for the winners, as is customary in Spanish football. Laporta described Mbappe's move as a surprise and emphasized that respect and generosity are required in both victory and defeat. He stressed that Barcelona shows respect to its opponents when it wins and does not understand the stance of the French star. At the same time, Laporta stated that he understands the disappointment of Real Madrid after the defeat, but this does not justify the lack of respect. He revealed that he had communication with Florentino Perez, the president of Real, who congratulated him on the victory. Laporta concluded by saying that if he were in Perez's position, he would have done the same, that is, he would have shown respect to Barcelona and accepted the defeat with dignity.
