Larnaca: Five Drug Trafficking Suspects Remain in Custody

The Larnaca District Court has ordered the renewal of the detention for five suspects arrested on February 14th by the YKAN (Drug Squad) on charges of drug trafficking. The suspects, aged 19, 23, and 39, face multiple charges including conspiracy, illegal possession and supply of drugs, and money laundering offenses. One suspect is additionally charged with possession of a firearm. A total of nine individuals were arrested, but charges against the other four are being investigated separately. Police are searching for a 20-year-old believed to be an accomplice. Defense attorneys opposed the extension of the detention, requesting 8 days, but the court approved a renewal for 6 days. Police fear that the release of the suspects could negatively impact the investigation, as there is a risk they may influence witnesses, destroy evidence, or flee abroad or to the occupied territories. The court agreed with these concerns, considering the existence of evidence, the connection of the suspects to the crimes, and the stage of the police investigation. The investigation focuses on identifying the drug supplier, the final recipients, and other accomplices. During the coordinated YKAN operation, 400 grams of cocaine, 150 grams of cannabis, precision scales, mobile phones, weapons, money, and vehicles were seized.
