Larnaca Mourns the Loss of Cultural Icon Kostas Katsonis

Kostas Katsonis, a pivotal figure in Larnaca's cultural landscape, passed away on Tuesday, February 10th. Mayors and representatives of city organizations expressed their deep sorrow, highlighting his invaluable contribution to culture and education. Larnaca Mayor Andreas Vyras described Katsonis as a "major asset" to the city, citing his initiative in establishing the House of Letters and Arts and other cultural initiatives. Aradippou Mayor Christodoulos Partou emphasized Katsonis's ethos and work, which shaped the spiritual and cultural identity of the town. Katsonis was a professor, philologist, scientist, and writer with a significant academic career and a rich literary work. He dedicated himself to education at all levels and served as the First Education Officer at the Ministry of Education and Culture. The President of the House of Letters and Arts, Angela Kaimaklioti, described him as a close collaborator who honored Education and Culture, while Andreas Morfitis, Vice-President of the KEKEM, recognized his contribution to culture and his dedication to human values. The deceased served as president of the House of Letters and Arts for two decades, establishing it as a space for dialogue and events. The Municipality of Larnaca expressed its deep sorrow for the loss of an eminent intellectual who marked the cultural and educational life of the city and Cyprus.
