Larnaca Port and Marina: Government Favors Port Authority for Development, Concerns Raised Over Land Use

The Cypriot government is leaning towards assigning the upgrade projects for the Larnaca port and marina to the Cyprus Ports Authority, based on recommendations from a study by the Growthfund. The study proposes a separation of the projects and examines six development scenarios for the port and marina. For the port, improving the existing space with an increase in the length of the quay and dredging of the port is preferred, while for the marina, expanding the basin by 200 boats is favored. The Minister of Transport emphasized the need for rapid project implementation and risk reduction, avoiding reliance on foreign capital. However, the Mayor of Larnaca expressed dissatisfaction with the lack of development of the land area, as the Growthfund's proposals foresee its use by the port and not for tourist or residential purposes.
