Cyprus: Increase Forecasted in Cattle Production – France Remains Largest Producer

The European Statistical Office (Eurostat) forecasts an increase in cattle production in Cyprus in the second half of 2026, with an estimated 9,930 cattle compared to 9,620 in the first half of the same year. Increases are also expected in sheep (from 71,290 to 82,140) and goat (from 42,170 to 54,730) production. At the European level, Eurostat predicts a slight decrease in cattle production (-4.2% or 0.5 million heads) and a significant drop in goat (-17.1%) and sheep (-17.8%) production in the second half of 2026. Conversely, pig production is expected to increase by 3.2% to 61.2 million heads. France remains the largest cattle producer in the EU, accounting for 23.1% of total production. Production in France is expected to decrease slightly (-0.4%), while Ireland is expected to see a significant decrease (-5.2%). Only Spain is forecast to see an increase in cattle production (+2.7%). Spain is also expected to be the leading pig producer in the EU, with an increase of 12.0% to 15.8 million heads. Germany, Denmark, and France also expect increases in pig production. As for sheep, Spain will remain the leading producer, but with a significant decrease (-40.4%). Greece is the leading producer of goat meat in the EU, with a predicted decrease of 2.6%.
