Cyprus: Dangerous Substances Found in E-Cigarettes - Potential Health Risks

In Cyprus, dangerous narcotic substances, such as MDMB (spice), have been detected in e-cigarettes circulating in the market. The discovery was made as part of an international operation by the UN, in which the Cypriot customs service participated, following the collection of evidence regarding the use of such substances in e-cigarettes. The situation has caused concern, especially among parents, due to the popularity of e-cigarettes among teenagers. In 2023, the YKAN had seized 3,674 similar preparations, but this is the first time that e-cigarette liquids have also been checked. The seized products will be destroyed, and YKAN will investigate the case to identify those responsible. The origin of the products is mainly in EU countries, such as the Netherlands and Greece (Crete). The President of the Cyprus Anti-Addiction Authority explains that synthetic cannabinoids are extremely dangerous psychoactive substances that mimic the action of THC.
