Cyprus Working for Consensus on 20th Russia Sanctions Package

Cyprus is working to achieve consensus on the 20th package of sanctions against Russia, Foreign Minister Konstantinos Kombos said before his participation in the Foreign Affairs Council in Brussels. The discussion is expected to focus on Ukraine, ahead of the fourth anniversary of the Russian invasion. The Foreign Minister stressed the need for a unified European stance and the effort to find a way for the EU to participate in future peace negotiations for Ukraine. He emphasized that Cyprus, as a country that has experienced invasion and occupation, fully stands by Ukraine and supports its territorial integrity and sovereignty. Despite the fact that the 20th sanctions package is considered ambitious and strong, achieving consensus remains difficult. The Cypriot Presidency is committed to continuing efforts to find a compromise with the European Commission and member states in order to adopt the package.
