Cyprus Presidency Will Continue Efforts for the 20th Package of Sanctions Against Russia

The Cyprus Presidency will continue working with the European Commission and member states to reach consensus on the 20th package of sanctions against Russia, said Foreign Minister Konstantinos Kombos, upon his arrival at the Foreign Affairs Council in Brussels. The discussion will focus on Ukraine, ahead of the fourth anniversary of the Russian invasion. Mr. Kombos stressed the importance of strengthening support for Ukraine and the need to find a way for the EU to actively participate in peace negotiations. Cyprus, as a country that has experienced invasion and occupation, fully stands by Ukraine. Referring to the 20th package of sanctions, the Foreign Minister stated that it is ambitious and strong, but consensus has not yet been reached. The Presidency will continue to work with the Commission and member states to reach an agreement. In addition, Mr. Kombos referred to the cooperation with Nikolai Mladenov, who has taken on a role in the Peace Council, and the progress made on the 20-point plan for Ukraine.
