Kombos: Working for Consensus on 20th Sanctions Package Against Russia

Foreign Minister Konstantinos Kombos stated that the Cypriot Presidency will continue to work with the European Commission and member states to reach consensus on the 20th package of sanctions against Russia. Mr. Kombos made the statements upon his arrival at the Foreign Affairs Council in Brussels, where the discussion focused on Ukraine, ahead of the fourth anniversary of the Russian invasion. The Foreign Minister emphasized the stance and sacrifices of the Ukrainian people, describing Russia's aggression as shocking to the continent. He stressed the need for the European Union to take action to be at the negotiating table and to support Ukraine. Mr. Kombos pointed out that Cyprus, as a country that has experienced invasion and occupation, fully stands by Ukraine, supporting its territorial integrity and sovereignty. He expressed hope that the EU will reiterate its unwavering support for Ukraine. Referring to the 20th sanctions package, Mr. Kombos described the package as ambitious and strong, with innovative elements, but noted that consensus has not yet been reached. He stated that the Presidency will continue efforts to reach an agreement, despite the difficulties.
