Cyprus Disability Federation Condemns MEP's Remarks on People with Intellectual Disabilities

The Cyprus Federation of Organizations of People with Disabilities (KYSOA) has expressed strong disappointment and condemnation regarding recent statements made by MEP Fidias Panagiotou concerning individuals with intellectual disabilities. KYSOA accuses Mr. Panagiotou of using language reminiscent of darkness and discrimination, undermining the struggle for inclusion and equality. The federation rejects the MEP's argument about his young age and lack of experience, emphasizing that his position requires a sense of responsibility and respect for all citizens. Furthermore, KYSOA calls on Mr. Panagiotou to take lessons in respecting diversity and to study the United Nations Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities, suggesting that he distance himself from disability policy until he gains the necessary knowledge and sensitivity.
