Kyra of Ro: Statue at a Spot Where the Greek Flag Was Raised for 40 Years

The mayor of Kastellorizo, Mr. Nikolaos Asvestis, and the sculptor Mr. Evangelos Tympas visited the island of Ro to begin the process of installing the statue of Kyra of Ro, Despoina Achladioti. The statue will be placed on a 10-meter-high rock, at the spot where Kyra of Ro raised the Greek flag for 40 years. Sculptor Mr. Tympas captured the legendary moment of Kyra of Ro raising the Greek flag, conveying a message of self-sacrifice, responsibility, and national dignity. The work is a tribute from the municipality of Kastellorizo to Kyra of Ro, as a sign of gratitude for her contribution and as a reminder of the debt to the homeland. Kyra of Ro (1890-1982) was a member of the Resistance and for 40 years raised the Greek flag on the rocky islet of Ro, symbolizing the Greek presence and sovereignty in the area.
