Traffic Nightmare in Limassol: 96,000 Vehicles Daily at Agios Athanasios Interchange

Limassol is facing an unprecedented traffic problem, with the Agios Athanasios interchange recording up to 96,000 vehicles daily. Traffic is heavy from 6:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m., causing reduced speeds and increased heavy vehicle traffic. The Public Works Department (PWD) has recorded a significant increase in traffic on the Nicosia – Limassol motorway (A1), particularly in the bypass section. The increased traffic is due to various factors, including urban commutes, access to the port, large developments, and connections to Paphos. The PWD is monitoring the situation and promoting projects and measures to alleviate congestion on the road network, but the pressure remains high.
