Veterinary Services: Culling Continues Amid Foot-and-Mouth Disease Outbreak

Veterinary Services continue epidemiological investigations into foot-and-mouth disease, primarily in the province of Larnaca. 34 infected units have been identified, and animals have been culled at 9 units (269 cows and 13,890 sheep and goats). Culling is carried out using approved methods (percussion weapon and euthanasia drug), and sufficient quantities of euthanasia drug have been secured. There was resistance from livestock farmers during the culling procedures, resulting in reports to the Police. Veterinary Services express concern about the way their work is being presented and emphasize that procedures are carried out in accordance with EU protocols.
