Foot-and-Mouth Disease Case Detected in Lesvos

A case of foot-and-mouth disease has been recorded in a cattle unit in the Pelopi area, northeastern Lesvos. Immediately, an emergency meeting was held under the Deputy Regional Governor for Primary Sector and strict measures were put in place to ban the movement of animals and products outside the island. Extensive checks have begun on all livestock in Lesvos, estimated at around 150,000 animals, with sampling and checks on livestock farms to identify potential new cases. The measures aim to limit the spread of the disease and protect the island's animal production.
