Kremlin Warns of “Unprecedented Escalation” of Tensions Around Iran

The Kremlin expressed concern over the unprecedented escalation of tensions around Iran due to the movement of US military forces to the Middle East. Moscow called on both Tehran and other involved parties to exercise prudence and restraint. At the same time, it stated that naval exercises between Iran and Russia had been scheduled before the current crisis. Regarding the peace talks on Ukraine in Geneva, the Kremlin added nothing beyond the statements of Vladimir Medinsky, Russia's chief negotiator, who described the talks as difficult but professional, expecting a new round soon. The Kremlin's statement comes at a time of heightened geopolitical tension, against the backdrop of concerns about the possibility of escalation of the conflict in the region. Russia seeks to maintain an observing stance, calling on all parties to avoid actions that could worsen the situation. Moscow appears to be seeking to maintain open channels of communication with all parties involved in order to contribute to de-escalation and find a peaceful solution.
