‘State Mafia’ Investigation: When Will Findings Be Revealed?

The investigation into the ‘State Mafia’ case, concerning corruption and abuse of power allegedly involving former President Nikos Anastasiades, will reach its two-year mark on February 20, 2026. However, the Anti-Corruption Authority has yet to announce its findings. The Transparency Commissioner, Charis Poyiatzis, avoided providing a specific timeline for the completion of the investigation, stating that instructions have been given to expedite the drafting of the report, which has been underway since July. The cost of the investigation is expected to exceed €1 million. The delay is attributed, according to Mr. Poyiatzis, to health issues experienced by two of the four inspection officers handling the case. The report will consist of five chapters, with the last two considered the most critical. During the investigation, a total of 129 individuals testified, including current and former officials, as well as President Christodoulides himself. More than 550 pieces of evidence, comprising tens of thousands of pages of documents, have also been collected. The Authority was unable to investigate all the allegations contained in the book ‘State Mafia’ due to lack of jurisdiction.
