US Willing to Cooperate in Investigation of Shootout off Cuba

The United States has expressed its willingness to “cooperate” with the investigation into the shootout that occurred off the coast of Cuba between a speedboat from Florida and the Cuban coast guard. Cuba denounced an attempt at “infiltration with terrorist purposes,” resulting in the deaths of four passengers on the American boat and the injury of six others, as well as one Cuban coast guard officer. The six injured were arrested and are hospitalized in a hospital in Santa Clara. The US will conduct an independent investigation and is trying to gain access to the survivors to determine if any are American citizens. Washington assures that it is not involved in this operation. Politicians in Florida have announced that they will conduct their own investigations. Cuba accuses the US of allowing anti-Cuban groups to act with impunity. Havana pledges to defend the island from any attack.
