Commission: Official Investigation into Elon Musk's Chatbot

The European Commission has launched an official investigation into Grok, the artificial intelligence chatbot of Elon Musk's X platform, regarding the spread of illegal content, such as fabricated sexually explicit images, in violation of European legislation, specifically the Digital Services Act. The investigation was initiated due to the mass production and distribution of sexual content featuring images of women and children by xAI Grok. The investigation will examine whether X complies with its obligations under European digital legislation, regarding the limitation of risks, content management, and the protection of fundamental rights. The European Commission has already imposed provisional measures, such as maintaining all internal documents and data related to Grok until the end of 2026. The EU imposed a fine of 120 million euros on X for violating the DSA, while the British regulator Ofcom has also launched an investigation into the same issue. The investigation focuses on the concerning use of Grok to create sexual content, including images of children, which may constitute serious offenses.
