Commission: Enhanced User Rights and Increased Accountability for Platforms

The Commission announced today that, after two years of implementation of the Digital Services Act (DSA), online platforms have reversed almost 50 million decisions affecting user content or accounts in the EU. The DSA gives users the ability to challenge platform decisions and increases their accountability. 30% of user challenges resulted in the reversal of the original decision. The majority of decisions relate to the enforcement of platform terms and conditions, not the removal of illegal content. In addition, the DSA has led to changes regarding user safety and well-being, such as the ban on targeted advertising to minors and the restriction of the spread of illegal products on online marketplaces. The legislation also provides researchers and civil society with access to information on platform content management processes.
