Italy and Germany Forge Stronger Alliance Amidst Global Challenges

Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni and German Chancellor Olaf Scholz reaffirmed the strengthening of Italian-German cooperation at a joint intergovernmental conference in Rome. Both leaders emphasized the need for unity and action in Europe, given the complex geopolitical situation. They agreed on prioritizing the enhancement of the competitiveness of European industries, security, and addressing migration. They also expressed a common view on supporting Ukraine and the need for closer cooperation with the United States, offering a realistic and constructive approach. Furthermore, both leaders supported the EU agreement with the Mercosur countries, leaving the final decision on provisional application to the European Commission. Meloni also referred to the absence of many member states from the Peace Council for Gaza.
