Alona Community Leader: "Valuable Amounts of Water Are Being Lost" - Requests Update on Dam at Gefyri Panagias

The community leader of Alona, Michalis Nikiforou, expresses his concern about the large amounts of water being lost due to the lack of a dam in the Gefyri Panagias area. He requests an update from the Minister of Agriculture on the status of the design of a six million cubic meter dam, as proposed in 2001. Mr. Nikiforou points out that after the recent rains, the water of the Serrachi River ends up unused in the sea, while the communities of northern Pitsilia face water scarcity problems in the summer. A dam could retain the water and use it for irrigation and other needs. In addition, the community leader emphasizes that a dam could contribute to the fire protection of the area, as it would provide immediate access to water for firefighting. Mr. Nikiforou warns that if the request for the construction of the dam does not receive an immediate response, they will proceed with dynamic mobilizations.
