Turkey and 7 Other Nations Accept Invitation to Join “Peace Council” for Gaza

Turkey, along with seven other countries (Saudi Arabia, Egypt, Jordan, Indonesia, Pakistan, Qatar, and the United Arab Emirates), has announced its acceptance of US President Donald Trump’s invitation to join the new “Peace Council” for Gaza. This move is part of the US government’s 20-page plan to end the conflict, which provides for a ceasefire, disarmament, technocratic administration, and reconstruction. Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan has been appointed as a member of the Council, with a focus on governance and support for essential services in Gaza. Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan was also invited as a founding member of the scheme. The joint statement from the eight countries expresses satisfaction with the invitation and clarifies that each state will follow the necessary internal legal procedures for official participation. The creation of the Peace Council marks a new effort to resolve the crisis in Gaza, with the participation of important regional players.
