Cypriot Presidency Aims to Strengthen EU Social Model

The Deputy Minister of Social Welfare, Klea Papaellena, stated that the Cypriot Presidency aims to strengthen the social model of the European Union. The statement was made during the Informal Meeting of the Social Protection Committee of the EU in Nicosia, where Mrs. Papaellena emphasized that poverty and social exclusion remain significant challenges requiring coherent policies. The Deputy Minister mentioned that strengthening support services is a key social investment that contributes to human dignity, the sustainability of employment, and long-term social cohesion. The main thematic discussion focused on the role of support services in tackling poverty and promoting social inclusion. The Director-General of the Deputy Ministry, Yiannis Nikolaidis, highlighted the importance of applying the integrated approach of active inclusion, as reflected in the European Pillar of Social Rights. The discussion focused on actively including all citizens in society. During the meeting, the importance of continued cooperation to strengthen the social dimension of the EU was emphasized. The President of the Committee, Ulrike Neufang, the representative of the Cypriot Presidency, Fanos Kouroofexis, and the Director of the Social Rights Department, Katarina Ivankovic-Knezevic, agreed on the need to further strengthen Europe's social policy.
