Central Bank: Growth to Slow to 2.7% in 2026, Impact of War and Foot-and-Mouth Disease

The Central Bank of Cyprus has revised down its growth forecasts for 2026 to 2.7%, compared to 3.8% projected in December 2025. The revision is due to the impact of the war in the Middle East, which is causing an increase in oil prices and geopolitical uncertainty. The war is expected to negatively affect tourism, shipping, the construction and real estate sectors. In addition, foot-and-mouth disease is expected to slow down production in the livestock sector, however this impact is expected to be limited. The Central Bank forecasts an acceleration of growth in 2027 and 2028, to 2.9% and 3.1% respectively. Domestic demand is expected to be supported by the increase in real disposable income and the resilience of the labor market.
