Combating Serious Crime a Priority for Cypriot Presidency

Combating serious and organised crime will be a central priority of the Cypriot Presidency of the Council of the EU, Justice Minister Kostas Fytiris stated to the European Parliament's Committee on Civil Liberties, Justice and Home Affairs (LIBE). The Minister stressed the need for a comprehensive and multi-sectoral strategy, as well as strong international and cross-sectoral cooperation, including collaboration with Europol. Particular emphasis will be placed on the recovery and confiscation of illegally acquired assets, as well as on combating economic and financial crime. The Cypriot Presidency aspires to act as a bridge of cooperation and contribute to strengthening European autonomy, security and competitiveness.
