Kenan Ayaz: His Struggle Continues at the ECHR

The case of Kurdish activist Kenan Ayaz continues at the European Court of Human Rights (ECHR), according to his lawyer, Eustathios Eustathiou. Despite his release after 3.5 years of imprisonment, the case is not over and Ayaz's full vindication remains the goal. A petition filed with the ECHR is pending following the rejection of an appeal against the conviction that imposed a prison sentence of four years and three months. The petition concerns issues of fair trial, as well as the right to freedom of assembly and association. A decision on the acceptance of the petition by the ECHR is expected. Ayaz retains the international protection status granted to him by the Republic of Cyprus, and his residence permit has been renewed. He remains in Cyprus and continues his struggle for a free Cyprus and a free Kurdistan. His lawyer described Ayaz as an ideologue who has influenced many people. Ayaz is optimistic that Kurdistan and Cyprus will be liberated in the future, while his eyes are on northeastern Syria, where a genocide is taking place, according to him. His release does not mark the end of the struggle, but a step towards achieving the goals of the Kurdish people.
