KΕVE: March Lost for Tourism – Cancellations and Reduced Bookings

The Secretary-General of KΕVE, Philokypros Rousounidis, stated that March has been lost for tourism in Cyprus, with cancellations reaching 50% and reduced bookings for the coming months. According to Mr. Rousounidis, this is due to the negative image of Cyprus internationally, due to the presentation of the war developments in the media, which created the impression that the country is in a state of war. KΕVE and the government agreed to cooperate to correct this image, through communication campaigns and contacts with major travel partners abroad. The goal is to stabilize bookings and revive tourism. Mr. Rousounidis noted that at present the impact of the war is limited to the tourism sector, but there are no safe estimates for the overall impact on the economy. The damage will depend on the duration and depth of the crisis in the region.
