Cyprus Reaffirms Support for Ukraine's Sovereignty During "Willing Alliance" Meeting

The President of Cyprus, Nikos Christodoulides, participated in a video conference of leaders of the “Alliance of the Willing” regarding Russia’s invasion of Ukraine. Cyprus, due to its own experience with illegal occupation, reaffirmed its strong support for Ukraine’s sovereignty, independence, and territorial integrity, emphasizing the inviolability of internationally recognized borders. The Cypriot Republic is monitoring the negotiations and the involvement of the United Nations, highlighting the European dimension of the crisis. Within the framework of the Cypriot Presidency of the Council of the EU, Ukraine is a priority, with emphasis on continuing European support, including the 20th package of sanctions, the implementation of the €90 billion loan, and maintaining the momentum of Ukraine’s accession negotiations. The Cypriot Republic fully recognizes the tragic consequences of the war in Ukraine and reaffirms its support, given its own experience with illegal invasion and occupation. It understands the need for a comprehensive approach that includes economic, political, and military support.
