Rape Case Filed Against Former Paphos Mayor: Life Imprisonment Possible

The Legal Service of Cyprus has ordered the filing of a rape case against Phaedon Phaedonos, the suspended mayor of Paphos. The indictment is expected to include four charges, including the felonies of rape and indecent assault. Furthermore, it is reported that a charge of “inducing a state of intoxication with the intent to commit a felony or misdemeanor” will be included, which carries a sentence of life imprisonment. The case concerns an incident allegedly occurring in 2014, and the complaint was the reason for Mr. Phaedonos' suspension. The seriousness of the charges indicates that Mr. Phaedonos will be tried in a Criminal Court. The case has generated significant interest and is expected to develop further with the commencement of legal proceedings.
