Syka Files Lawsuit Against DISY – Party Files Objection

MP Nikos Syka has filed a lawsuit against the Democratic Rally (DISY) in the Limassol District Court regarding the party's decision to remove him from the election ballot for the upcoming parliamentary elections. Syka is seeking a suspension of DISY's decision until the case is examined by the court. DISY responded that it considers the application premature and will file an objection. The court proceedings were brief, with Syka's lawyer filing a request for a temporary injunction. DISY, through its lawyer, requested time to file an objection, arguing that the application is premature. The court requested that DISY's objection be filed by February 20th and set the next hearing for February 24th. The issue has caused internal strife within DISY. It is noted that Syka is not seeking financial compensation through his lawsuit. The case must be resolved before February 28th, when the DISY Supreme Council will convene. Furthermore, it is recalled that the Supreme Court had lifted Syka's immunity following a complaint from his partner regarding assault, which was later withdrawn, leading to further investigation of the case. This led to the party's decision to exclude him from the ballot.
