Customs Department Seizes Contraband Tobacco in Three Separate Cases

The Customs Department successfully seized contraband tobacco products in three separate incidents within a 24-hour period at the Agios Dometios crossing point. The first case involved a Greek Cypriot driver carrying duty-free cigarettes, heated tobacco, and roll-your-own tobacco without the required health warnings. He paid a fine of €300 and was released. In the second case, a Turkish Cypriot driver had similar duty-free products hidden in the spare tire compartment of his vehicle and paid a fine of €400. Finally, a taxi carrying an Irish passenger to Larnaca Airport was found to contain two kilograms of roll-your-own tobacco without the necessary warnings, resulting in a €700 fine for the passenger. All seizures involved products lacking health warnings in Greek and Turkish, indicating smuggling.
