Bullying Allegations at Elementary School

Parents of elementary school students are reporting repeated incidents of bullying and physical assault by a classmate. The complaints, which began in November, concern verbal and physical attacks, as well as disruption of the learning process. Parents report that their children are afraid to go to school and feel unsafe. Despite repeated letters of protest to the school administration, the Ministry of Education, and the Children's Rights Commissioner, the situation has not improved. The school administration informed that the Committee on Education and Health has met and submitted a report to the Ministry, while the Ministry of Education assures that measures have been taken, such as activating the Action Plan for the prevention of school violence and strengthening supervision. However, parents disagree, arguing that these measures have not been effective. Sigma attempted to contact the school inspector without success, while the Ministry of Education pledged to fully investigate the matter. This case highlights the growing problem of school violence, with the latest figures from the Ministry of Education recording 2,522 incidents during the 2023-2024 school year. More specifically, the reported incidents of violence and bullying were: 457 physical assaults, 1,270 verbal assaults, 660 cases of relational violence, and 135 cases of property damage. This incident adds to the growing concern for the safety of students in schools and the need for effective measures to prevent and address school violence.
