Domestic Violence Arrest Warrant Upheld by Supreme Court

The Supreme Court of Cyprus has rejected an application by a man seeking to overturn an arrest warrant issued against him for domestic violence. The man argued that there was no reasonable suspicion of committing a crime and that his arrest was unjustified. However, the court ruled that reasonable suspicion existed, based on the complainant's report alleging violent behavior towards her and her children. Furthermore, the court considered the issuance of the arrest warrant necessary to protect witnesses and prevent new crimes, given that the complainant and her children resided in the same residence as the accused. The case involves violations of legislation to prevent and combat violence against women and the Penal Code, including assault causing bodily harm.
