Qatar: Over 300 Arrested for Spreading 'False News' About Iran Attacks

Qatari authorities have arrested more than 300 people for publishing videos and “misleading information” about the attacks by Iran on the country. The arrests were made by the financial and cybercrime combatting agency and involve individuals of various nationalities. Similar arrests have taken place in other Gulf countries, such as Bahrain and Kuwait, where individuals were arrested for spreading false news and ridiculing the situation through videos. The United Arab Emirates and Saudi Arabia issued warnings about potential legal prosecution for anyone sharing images or “unreliable information”. Despite these measures, images of missiles, drones and damage continue to circulate on social media. These arrests highlight the strict stance of Gulf countries against the spread of false news and their attempt to control the flow of information amid regional tensions.
