Kassianidou: Gratitude to Greece, Cultural Program and Memory through 'Sector 2: Nicosia'

The Deputy Minister of Culture of the Republic of Cyprus, Dr. Vasiliki Kassianidou, attended the opening of the exhibition 'Sector 2: Nicosia' in Athens, which highlights the history of the Green Line. The exhibition, which is part of the Cypriot Presidency's Cultural Program of the Council of the European Union for 2026, presents in a modern way the impact of the division on Nicosia and the lives of its residents. Ms. Kassianidou emphasized that the exhibition transcends Cypriot borders and touches upon European reflections on memory, trauma management, and the need to bridge differences in an era of polarization. The hosting of the exhibition at the former Public Tobacco Factory of the Hellenic Parliament is considered particularly important, as it offers an opportunity to learn about a critical period in the history of Nicosia. The Deputy Minister expressed her admiration for the scientific excellence and artistic approach of the exhibition, thanking the contributors, including the Leventis Municipal Museum of Nicosia, the Anastasios G. Leventis Foundation, and the Municipality of Nicosia. She also thanked the Hellenic Parliament for its patronage and the provision of the space. Furthermore, Ms. Kassianidou expressed the gratitude of the Republic of Cyprus to the Greek government and Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis for their continued support to Cyprus, given the geopolitical developments in the Eastern Mediterranean. Finally, she assured that Cyprus remains a stable and functioning European country, committed to diplomacy and international law.
