Deal Reached for Historical Photos of Nazi War Crimes in Greece for €100,000

The Greek delegation of the Ministry of Culture has reached an agreement with a Belgian collector to acquire a collection of 262 historical photographs from the period of the German Occupation in Greece, for approximately €100,000. The collection includes shocking documents from the execution of 200 Greeks in Kaisariani on May 1st, 1944, as well as photographs used for German propaganda, depicting Greek monuments with Nazi symbols. The collector had initially auctioned off the photographs, unaware of their historical value, which mobilized the Greek authorities. The collection has been declared a monument due to its historical value as evidence of Nazi propaganda. The acquisition of the collection marks a significant effort to preserve historical memory.
