The Cypriot Republic does not participate, nor is it participating, nor will it participate in any military operation, but will only serve its humanitarian role, as it has been doing all this time, Government Spokesman Konstantinos Letymbiotis stated on Tuesday, after the meeting of the President of the Republic, Nikos Christodoulides, with the Minister of National Defence of Greece, Nikos Dendias, in the presence of the Minister of Defence, Vasilis Palma. He also highlighted the importance of transmitting accurate information, especially in times of regional crises, pointing out that the Government calls on the public to be informed by verified information from the mass media and from the official channels and statements of the Government. Speaking to journalists at the Press Centre at the Presidential Palace, the Spokesman said that “the meeting of the President of the Republic with the Minister of Defence of Greece takes place after the immediate response of the Greek Government, to whom we once again express our thanks, and to the Greek Prime Minister, who immediately responded after the telephone call with the President of the Republic.” He added that four F-16s of the Greek Air Force arrived in Cyprus yesterday, while according to the latest information, the two Greek frigates set sail yesterday at 11 pm and are expected to approach Cyprus during the day. The National Security Council of Cyprus held a meeting under the presidency of President Christodoulides to assess the situation and measures taken, while a Press Centre has been set up at the Presidential Palace to provide immediate information to the media.
