Clean Monday Prices: Octopus Up, Tomatoes Down

The Consumer Protection Service's Price Observatory recorded significant fluctuations in the prices of products traditionally consumed on Clean Monday. While the price of tomatoes, cucumbers, beets, and courgettes decreased significantly compared to last year, the price of lagana (flatbread), octopus, squid, and celery increased. Specifically, the price of celery increased by 52.84%, eggplant salad by 27.24%, octopus by 25.05%, and squid by 7.20%. Lagana and tahini also increased their prices by 18.29% and 8.88% respectively. Conversely, the price of tomatoes decreased by 46.74%, courgettes by 27.42%, cucumbers by 21.70%, and beets by 18.09%. A decrease was also recorded in the prices of shrimp and calamari by 25.94% and 14.21% respectively. The Price Observatory found large differences in the prices of the same products at different points of sale, highlighting the need for consumers to research the market before making their purchases.
