Housing a Major Issue and Priority for Cypriot Presidency

Minister of Interior, Konstantinos Ioannou, emphasized that housing is a major issue and a priority for the Cypriot Presidency. During contacts at the European Parliament on housing issues, he informed members of the Special Committee on the housing crisis in the EU (HOUS) about the Presidency's priorities and goals. The Cypriot Presidency aims to strengthen access for European citizens to quality, sustainable, and affordable housing, without exclusions. To this end, it will focus on four main priorities: access to affordable housing, strengthening investment in the housing sector, increasing supply, and exchanging experiences and knowledge between member states. The Minister announced the holding of an informal teleconference with the Housing Commissioner to discuss the provisions of the European Plan for Affordable Housing. Also, Cyprus will host the first informal ministerial meeting on housing in May in Nicosia, with the aim of further exchanging views and shaping common policies.
