Israel: Intelligence Services Warned of Hamas Invasion Plan Since 2018

According to revelations by the Israeli website Ynet, Israeli intelligence services informed Benjamin Netanyahu, Shin Bet, and Mossad about Hamas's invasion plan since April 2018. The plan, called “Jericho Walls,” included a coordinated, multi-pronged attack on military bases and political communities in southern Israel, with the breaching of the Gaza border fence and the deployment of thousands of fighters. The plan detailed the invasion using tunnels and rocket attacks, targeting military and political objectives. Despite initial reservations about Hamas's ability to implement the plan, the seriousness of the threat had been highlighted by Israeli intelligence agencies. Netanyahu had received repeated updates on Hamas’s plans but publicly denied having seen the plan before the October 7th attack. The first known transmission of the plan to political and military leadership occurred in April 2018. These revelations come during a period of intense criticism of the failure of Israeli intelligence services to prevent the Hamas attack. The publication of the “Jericho Walls” document raises questions about the actions taken after being informed of the invasion plan and why sufficient measures were not taken to prevent it.
