Iranian Ambassador to Cyprus: “Mojtaba Khamenei Was Injured”

The Iranian ambassador to Cyprus, Alireza Salarian, told the Guardian newspaper that the new supreme leader of Iran, Ayatollah Mojtaba Khamenei, was injured in the legs, shoulders and hand by the US-Israeli strikes that led to the death of his father, Ali Khamenei, on February 28. Mojtaba Khamenei, 56, has not appeared in public since his election to the highest office of the Islamic Republic. According to the ambassador, the Ayatollah was injured during the bombing of his residence and is hospitalized. However, the son of the president, Masoud Pezeskian, stated via Telegram that Mojtaba Khamenei is “safe and sound.” The Iranian ambassador’s statement is the first confirmation from an Iranian official regarding the health condition of the new leader. This news comes at a time of intense speculation about the fate of Mojtaba Khamenei, as his absence from public dialogue was causing concern about his ability to assume his duties.
