Iran: Four Dead After Helicopter Crash in Fruit Market

Four people have died today after an Iranian army helicopter crashed into a fruit and vegetable market in central Iran, according to Iran’s official news agency Irna. The dead are the helicopter’s pilot and co-pilot, as well as two vendors at the market in Khomaynisahr, near the metropolis of Isfahan, in central Iran, Irna specified. The Iranian news agency referred to a “technical failure.” Iran, which has been hit by sanctions for decades, has experienced several air accidents in recent years, mainly with military aircraft, but also civilian ones. The authorities regularly point to the difficulties in supplying the spare parts necessary to keep the aging aircraft in flight condition.
