Iran Protests: Death Toll Reaches 6,126 According to NGO

According to the non-governmental organization Human Rights Activists News Agency (HRANA), at least 6,126 people have lost their lives during the protests in Iran. The death toll includes 5,777 protesters, 214 members of the security forces, 86 children, and 49 citizens who were not involved in the demonstrations. Furthermore, over 41,800 people have been arrested. The number of casualties has not been independently verified by the Associated Press due to restrictions on internet access and communications imposed by Iranian authorities. The Iranian government reports a much lower death toll of 3,117, categorizing the deceased as citizens, security forces, or “terrorists.” The lack of transparency from the Iranian government regarding deaths during social unrest is a recurring issue, making it difficult to accurately assess the true extent of the violence.
