Iran Warns of Regional Blackout if Energy Infrastructure is Targeted

Iran threatens that any attack on its energy infrastructure will cause a widespread blackout throughout the region. This threat came in response to the 48-hour deadline given by Donald Trump to open the Strait of Hormuz. The Iranian news agency “Mehr” published a map of major power plants in countries of the Persian Gulf, pointing out that 70-80% of power generation units are within range of Iranian missiles. At the same time, an Iranian MP stated that the country is charging up to $2 million to certain ships for passage through the Strait of Hormuz, describing the measure as part of a new policy of controlling the strategic sea route. The situation remains tense, with growing fears of escalation of the conflict in the region. The international community is called upon to exercise restraint and avoid actions that could lead to further destabilization.
