Iran: Security in Hormuz Won't Return While War Continues

Ali Larijani, head of Iran's Supreme National Security Council, warned that security in the Strait of Hormuz will not be restored as long as the war with the US and Israel continues. This warning comes shortly after France announced preparations for a “defensive” mission to reopen the critical sea lane. French President Emmanuel Macron stated that the mission will be “strictly peaceful” and will be of a “defensive and escorting nature,” aiming to accompany container ships and tankers once the situation stabilizes. France is discussing the participation of other countries, such as India. At the same time, the European Union announced that it is ready to strengthen its maritime security missions in the region, due to the war in the Middle East. The EU already has two missions, “Aspides” in the Red Sea and “Atalanta” in the Indian Ocean, to protect ships from attacks and piracy, respectively. According to the EU, leaders of Middle Eastern countries who participated in a video conference discussed the impact of attacks on energy infrastructure and the closure of the Strait of Hormuz, seeking ways to strengthen cooperation to mitigate risks.
