Skiier Rescued After Being Buried in Avalanche for Six Minutes

A 23-year-old British skier was in danger in the French Alps when he was swept away by a large avalanche while skiing off-piste. Daniel Matthews was buried under nearly two meters of snow and remained trapped for about six minutes, losing consciousness. Fortunately, his friends were able to locate him using avalanche transceivers and rescue him in time, saving his life. Matthews captured the moment of the avalanche with his helmet camera, showing the speed and inability to control his course. He described the experience as feeling like being inside a washing machine and admitted that his decision to ski in the area was reckless. The immediate reaction of his friends was crucial for his survival, as they dug for more than two meters in less than three minutes, managing to free his head. The ski resort's rescue team completed his rescue, describing his survival as a miracle. Matthews acknowledged that he ignored warning signs and took full responsibility for the incident, emphasizing the importance of appropriate equipment, training, and trust in the people who accompany you. The incident occurred on the same day as the death of two other Britons in an avalanche in Val d'Isère.
