Cyprus: Investigations into Fatal Accident in Aglantzia Nearing Completion

Police investigations into the death of Kyriakos Antoniou in Aglantzia, which occurred in late July, are in the final stages, according to Police Spokesman Vironas Vyronas. The investigation has been delayed due to the need for further examinations, but is expected to be completed soon and sent to the Legal Service. Kyriakos Antoniou lost his life in a collision with another vehicle on Larnaca Avenue while attempting to turn right. The other vehicle, which had the right of way, is alleged to have been traveling at excessive speed. The case has generated significant public interest and concern. Police had initially announced the completion of the investigation in early October, but the case remains open due to the need for further investigation. Special attention is being given to issues facing the Cypriot livestock industry, which has been affected by foot-and-mouth disease, and a separate meeting with representatives of the sector is expected to address the problems and provide support.
