Fatal Aglantzia Crash: Driver to Face Charges – Legal Service Issues Directives to Police

The driver involved in the fatal traffic accident in Aglantzia in July 2023, which resulted in the death of a 20-year-old student, will be brought to justice on serious charges. The Legal Service has instructed the Police to file criminal charges, following a thorough investigation and the submission of an expert report. The case file had been returned to the Legal Service in February, but was returned to the Police with instructions for specific charges related to the 20-year-old's death and traffic violations. The investigation was complex due to the circumstances of the accident, which involved a right turn with a green light. The accident occurred when the 20-year-old, driving on Larnaca Avenue, attempted to turn right and collided with a car driven by a 24-year-old. The 20-year-old died instantly, while the occupants of the other vehicle sustained minor injuries. Traffic Police had attempted to retrieve data from the 24-year-old's vehicle, but without success. Despite the difficulties, Traffic Police concluded that the 24-year-old was responsible for the accident. The case had been handed over to the Legal Service in November, but returned to the Police for further investigation. Finally, the Legal Service issued final instructions for the case to be filed in court.
